Salsa recipe

Salsa recipe – restaurant style

You’ve seen the jars sold along with corn chips at the grocery store. You’ve gobbled inordinate amounts of it at your favored Mexican eating place.

And now it’s time to make it at home.

It’s healthier, it’s less expensive and it tastes SO desirable! Flavor, flavor, flavor – self-made salsa has the flavour you genuinely can’t purchase in a jar!

What goes in salsa

Here are the elements in my salsa recipe. the important thing things that add super flavor to salsa are cumin, cilantro/coriander, garlic, onion, and jalapeño. I also like to feature canned inexperienced chiles which provide brilliant smokiness and small contact of heat (not a whole lot).

Canned inexperienced chiles are a famous Tex-Mex factor in us that’s no longer (but) available here in Australia. I bring returned dozens on every occasion I visit America, that’s how a good deal I love it! It’s clean to sub the flavor using chargrilled peppers – though they are crimson, now not inexperienced, they upload the equal smokiness that the green chiles add.
after you’ve gathered your components, it’s as simple as plonk and blitz. Make it as chunky or easy as you like. I like mine cleaner because I locate you get better flavor whilst the onion etc is blitzed up pretty finely.

also, the chunkier the salsa, the extra it separates whilst sitting around. So it holds up higher the smoother it’s far.

How and what to serve with salsa

the plain manner to serve is as a dip for corn chips or something appropriate for dunking, however, there are a whole bunch of different in reality brilliant methods to use salsa! here are a few ideas:

  • Topping/dipping for tacos, burritos, fajitas, nachos, quesadillas – essentially the whole thing and anything Mexican
  • Spoon over crispy pan-fried fish, juicy baked fowl breast, simple or marinated pan-fried pork chops
  • Dollop in this Mexican hen Salad

For the healthiest dip platter ever, serve salsa with crudités (that’s a fancy word for veggie sticks), like this one – an image from my Hummus recipe.
I make this salsa recipe lots because I’m a confessed Snack Monster and this is my way of having something nibbly without the guilt. It’s one of those meals I name “by the way healthful”. meaning – it’s not a stripped-back “food regimen” version of the manner it’s purported to be.

Snack Monsters unite! think of all of the guilt-unfastened snacking possibilities! (just ignore all of the pix of the corn chips all over this post. suppose – carrot sticks.)

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup chopped onion (white, brown or yellow)

  • 1 tbsp jalapeño pepper , seeds removed, roughly chopped (fresh best, canned ok)

  • 400g / 14 oz canned crushed tomato , best quality

  • 4 oz / 120g canned diced green chiles (Note 1)

  • 1/4 cup (packed) cilantro/coriander , roughly chopped

  • 1/2 tbsp+ lime juice

  • 1 clove garlic , minced

  • 1/2 tsp sugar

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin

Instructions

1
area onion and jalapeno within the food processor first, then upload the last components (begin with 1/2 tbsp lime juice).
2
Blitz to desired consistency - I like mine quite smooth because you get the higher flavor out of the onion and so on.
3
flavor take a look at corn chip for salt and lime. alter if important.
4
Refrigerate 1 hour earlier than serving with corn chips, or different dippers (see in publishing for guidelines).

Notes

Canned inexperienced Chiles - a popular Tex Mex component bought in the USA no longer available in Australia. I carry again dozens whenever I visit us! no longer highly spiced, greater for a smokey flavor. Tastes like chargrilled peppers (capsicum) that is a near the best sun (except it's pink instead of inexperienced). Use the same amount (about 1/three cup). Or depart it out - still so so tasty. Serve on the day, or refrigerate in a sealed container for up to a few days. may need freshening up with freshly chopped coriander/cilantro and lime juice.
